While you may have celebrated New Year’s with a lot of fervor and gusto every year, there is no reason to miss out on spending quality time with your friends and loved ones this New Year’s Eve just because you’re pregnant. In fact, you have a great reason to celebrate and welcome 2016 because you have a lot to look forward to! However, despite the festive season, don't do these 6 things during pregnancy. Here’s how you need not forego celebrations and have fun without straining yourself: 1.  Have a Bring Your Own Food (BYOF) party at home During pregnancy, you might not have the energy or inclination to throw a full blown party at home during New Year’s. However, that is no reason to dismiss the idea of having a house party. Instead, call all your friends and even relatives to your place for a get-together and request each one of them to bring their own dish. By doing so, you can still play hostess with minimal effort on your part and the best part is, you don’t have to leave your house and go through the trouble of travelling, especially if your doctor recommends bed rest for you. This way, you get to spend quality time with your loved ones before you become a forever busy mother! However, remember not to consume these 7 things while partying. 2.  Go on a short vacation with your hubby You might be eagerly waiting for your due date so you can finally hold your baby in your arms, but during New Year’s, consider keeping your pregnancy anxieties aside for a few days and go on a short vacation with your husband. After all, post delivery, you and your husband won’t get the chance to spend any quality time for several months on end! However, if you are on bed rest, make sure to consult your doctor before making any travel plans. These are the 5 safe positions for sex during pregnancy. 3.  Start writing a journal and/or a letter for your unborn child If partying or travelling is just not your idea of fun, you still need not sit idle at home during New Year’s. You could use this opportunity to reflect on your new life and how you will tackle any challenges or obstacles that could arise regarding your career or even personal life post delivery. By maintaining a journal, you will get the clarity and insight from writing regularly. Once you are comfortable, write a heartfelt letter to your unborn child and try to express your vision, thoughts, views and feelings in that letter during your peaceful New Year’s at home. 4.  Binge watch your favourite movies/shows New Year’s can be an extremely lonely time for those who don’t have the luxury of constantly being surrounded by friends at some party or the other. Besides, it is best to avoid the partying scene as you will be exposed to a lot of cigarette smoke and will feel like you’re missing out because you can’t drink. However, if writing isn’t one of your favourite hobbies, you could still have a great time by staying at home with your hubby. Pull out those old DVDs of your favourite movies/shows or simply watch them online along with a loved one. You could also indulge and order a pizza since it’s the holiday season. These are the 8 common mistakes every pregnant woman makes. 5.  Enroll for an online course Pregnancy is the perfect time for you to take up a course in something you have always been interested but previously haven't had the time to pursue due to your work and domestic demands. However, during pregnancy, especially if you are on bed rest, you find that you have a lot of free time on your hands. New Year's is the perfect time to motivate yourself to learn something new and different which could help add more skills and value to your life in the coming year like learning a new language or subject of your interest.
